The one stop for all documentation resources created specifically for nurse practitioners!
Erica Dorn, MSN, FNP-BC

Hi, I’m Erica D the NP.

A family nurse practitioner and creator of The Burned-out Nurse Practitioner and The Nurse Practitioner Charting School.

Rewind to 2015, I was a RN on a busy, acute care floor. Looking back, I was further down the healthcare burnout path than I realized at the time.

I felt mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. I dreaded going to work and became detached from my patients, my co-workers, my family, and even myself.

I didn’t even know I was burned-out from nursing until I read an article on compassion fatigue in healthcare providers. It wasn’t easy, but eventually I conquered the burnout and chose to stay in healthcare.

I created The Burned-out Nurse Practitioner to help overwhelmed nurse practitioners do the same. Once I began coaching and talking with burned-out nurse practitioners, I realized CHARTING was the #1 cause of work-life imbalance and nurse practitioner burnout.

I reflected on my own journey with charting and how little I knew after graduate school. I ended up teaching myself what should and should not go in a patient’s chart note. I learned how to choose the correct Evaluation and Management codes to ensure proper billing. I worked on my time management skills to avoid bringing charts home. I’ve spent hours taking classes, reviewing medical guidelines, and reading other provider notes.

I created The Nurse Practitioner Charting School to share the information with other nurse practitioners. Whether you are a nurse practitioner student, new graduate, or experienced APRN, there is something for everyone!

It is my mission to help nurse practitioners chart accurately and efficiently, ensure proper billing and coding, and get back to caring for our patients!

The Nurse Practitioner Charting School will help you chart accurately and efficiently, ensure proper billing and coding, and ultimately feel confident with your documentation as a nurse practitioner!

“I reached out to Erica regarding her charting course after 20 years of struggling to get charts done. I started her program by doing a current analysis of types of visits and time mapping study. I began to make small changes I learned from her. For instance, closing notes every 2-3 patients. Also implementing other tricks and tools she offered to become a more efficient provider while not sacrificing patient care and satisfaction.”
