When I started The Nurse Practitioner Charting School two years ago, I really wanted to be the #1 stop for all documentation resources created specifically for nurse practitioners.
I had originally started working with nurse practitioners through The Burned-out Nurse Practitioner. Burnout is something I overcame myself and know a lot of nurse practitioners struggled as well.
When I started working with these nurse practitioners, I realized that the #1 cause of nurse practitioner burnout was a lack of work-life balance.
And the #1 cause of lack of work-life balance was CHARTING!
So many nurse practitioners constantly run behind during the workday, stay late at the office, or bring charts home.
Not only do nurse practitioners sacrifice time away from their families, they spend their evening, weekends, early morning just trying to catch up.
This creates a lack of work-life balance and leaves little time for nurse practitioners to focus on their personal life.
A Revolution in Medical Documentation
Nurse practitioners often find themselves overwhelmed by the demands of charting, leading to long hours at the office, taking work home, and sacrificing personal time. Many NPs spend evenings, weekends, and early mornings trying to catch up on charts, leaving little room for personal pursuits or family time.
This ongoing struggle for balance inspired me to create The Nurse Practitioner Charting School, where I continuously share time management strategies and charting tips aimed at helping NPs reclaim their time and achieve a better work-life balance.
But I fear I will be out of a job soon.
However, the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have introduced a new player into the field: the Freed AI Medical Scribe. This technology promises to revolutionize medical documentation, potentially rendering traditional charting methods—and the need for a charting coach—obsolete.
But rather than seeing this as a threat, I see it as a tremendous opportunity for nurse practitioners to enhance their efficiency and well-being.
The Impact of AI on Healthcare
The healthcare industry is no stranger to innovation, but the integration of AI is propelling change at an unprecedented pace. AI is being utilized in various capacities, such as analyzing data in drug trials to expedite the production of new medications, optimizing billing and scheduling processes, and even interpreting diagnostic imaging like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. Among these applications, one of the most intriguing is the use of AI for medical documentation.
When I first learned about AI being used for medical documentation, I was both curious and skeptical. I embarked on a journey to explore different AI Medical Scribe solutions. Some systems integrated well with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) but were prohibitively expensive and required extensive IT support for setup. Others turned out to be advanced dictation systems rather than true AI-driven solutions.
Then I stumbled upon Freed AI Medical Scribe (learn more here).
And I was BLOWN AWAY!
How Freed AI Medical Scribe Works
Freed AI leverages advanced algorithms to understand and process medical data. It listens to patient-clinician interactions, transcribes the conversation in real-time, and integrates the relevant information directly into the EHR. This process eliminates the need for manual data entry, allowing nurse practitioners to focus more on patient care and less on paperwork.
The accuracy of Freed AI is a standout feature. Unlike traditional dictation systems that require significant editing, Freed AI Medical Scribe produces highly accurate notes that are ready for review and signing. This precision reduces the risk of errors and ensures that patient records are complete and up-to-date.
